FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Deane House Temporarily Closed for Repairs

September 18, 2019 (Calgary, AB) – Deane House in Inglewood is temporarily closed for repairs this fall, following a sprinkler valve failure that caused extensive water damage throughout the historic house.

A sprinkler valve located in the attic failed on Sunday, September 8th, as staff were closing for the evening, flooding all four floors impacting the dining, kitchen, mechanical and storage areas. Recovery and restoration is under way, and the restaurant is closed for the remainder of 2019.

A historic landmark, Deane House was originally built in 1906 for Captain Richard Burton Deane, the last superintendent of the Royal Northwest Mounted Police stationed at Fort Calgary. The redevelopment of the Deane House garden, grounds and historic house was completed by Fort Calgary Preservation Society in 2015 and the restaurant interiors, kitchens and garden patio were lovingly redesigned and renovated in 2016 under the watchful eye of Sal Howell, founder of the iconic River Café.

Deane House is known as one of Calgary’s best restaurants and event venues.

“We are very appreciative of the incredible outpouring of concern and support from the Calgary community, and we hope that people will come and see us at River Café while Deane House is under restoration” said Deane House Proprietor, Sal Howell. “We apologize for any inconvenience, and we look forward to welcoming all guests back to Deane House in 2020 for the winter, spring and summer ‘garden party’ season.”
